Hi Maude,
Before I dive in—I'm just back from a two-week trip to Kauai with
my family, fully unplugged.
No checking in. No managing from a beach chair. Truly away.
And the beautiful thing? My business ran beautifully. My team
handled things, the business was strong, and I came back able to
hit the ground running on a new project I’m excited to share more
about soon.
Experiences like this remind me: a business that can run without
you isn’t built through more control… it’s built through
leadership.
Which brings me to something I see business owners tolerate all
the time…
One thing I see often with business owners who want their
business to run more smoothly without them… is they’re tolerating
too much.
And I’ve done it too.
You hire someone.
At first there are little things.
They call out their second weekend.
They’re late… more than once.
There’s gossip.
Excuses.
Resistance to feedback.
Maybe they show signs early on that they don’t honor agreements.
But instead of seeing what’s so, we explain it away.
We give another chance.
And another.
And another.
And while we think we’re being compassionate…
We may actually be teaching our team what we’re willing to
tolerate.
And that has a cost.
It costs trust.
It costs culture.
It costs your team believing standards matter.
And it often costs you the very thing you want most—
A business that can run without you constantly stepping in.
Here’s a distinction I teach in SELA:
Don’t just ask, Can I make this work with this person?
Ask:
Does this work for the business?
Because if everyone behaved this way…
Would your company run smoothly?
That question changes everything.
Strong leadership isn’t about making people wrong.
It’s about having a clear view.
Seeing what works.
Seeing what doesn’t.
And responding from clarity instead of old patterns.
Sometimes we tolerate because of past programming:
Fear of confrontation.
Fear of staffing shortages.
Fear of being “too hard.”
Or stories like, “People just need more chances.”
But often… people show us who they are early.
Believe the behavior.
Address what doesn’t work early.
Because what you tolerate becomes culture.
And culture determines whether your business depends on you… or
can begin to run with real leadership underneath it.
This is a big part of what we work through inside SELA—how to
lead from clarity, agreements, communication, and what actually
works.
Right now enrollment is closed, but doors will open again soon
and I’ll be sharing details with this list first.
If this hit home, reply and tell me:
What’s one thing in your team you may be tolerating right now
that no longer works?
I read every reply.
To building a business that doesn’t rely on your constant rescue,
Nicki
P.S. Sometimes scaling isn’t about adding more systems.
It’s about stopping what’s quietly draining the ones you already
have.
I’ve started sharing my deeper writing and reflections on
Substack if you’d like to follow along.

We made it, and I’m fully unplugged, soaking up time with my

Hi Maude,
There was a time in my business when taking a real vacation felt
impossible.
Not because I didn’t want it badly enough.
Not because I wasn’t working hard enough.
And not because I wasn’t successful enough.
It felt impossible because I didn’t yet have the tools, the
frameworks, or the leadership to create that kind of freedom.
For the past four years, I’ve taken a spring break vacation with
my family with zero contact from my team.
Zero.
And every year, I cherish it.
I’m getting ready to head to Kauai with my family, and I already
know I’ll be able to fully relax into our time together. That
kind of freedom is something we deeply respect in our family and
in our business. When I’m off, I’m off. And when my team is off,
they’re off too.
But that wasn’t always my reality.
There was a season in my business when I wanted to sell it. I was
done.
The energy I was putting out no longer matched what I was getting
back. And the truth is, it wasn’t really about the money.
It was about how I was leading.
The more I built, the less free I felt.
So I made a decision.
I went all in.
I stopped looking outside myself for the answer, and I started
learning how to truly lead.
I looked at myself.
I looked at my patterns.
I looked at what wasn’t working.
And I got honest about why freedom still felt out of reach.
That journey changed everything.
Over the years, as I dug in, I created the frameworks I now share
inside SELA.
These are not just ideas I share.
They are the exact tools I use in my business and in my life.
I use the Clarity Framework.
I use intention setting.
I focus on what works.
I create powerful agreements with my team.
I use the ARC.
I don't lead from fear. And I look at my past programming.
My leadership team has done SELA.
Other members of my team have done SELA too.
We are aligned in how we lead, how we communicate, and how we
honor each other’s time, energy, and lives.
That alignment is one of the reasons I can leave.
Not with stress.
Not with one eye on my phone.
But with trust.
And maybe that’s what I most want you to know:
Freedom in business doesn’t only come from making more.
It comes from learning how to lead in a way that creates
workability, trust, and clarity.
It comes from building something that doesn’t require your
constant emotional or energetic overextension to survive.
This work has changed the way I lead my business.
And it has changed the way I live my life.
That’s why I created SELA.
Because leadership is not just about how you run your team.
It’s about whether the life you are building actually feels the
way you want it to feel.
If you’re craving more clarity, more trust, more spaciousness,
and more freedom in your business, SELA was built for that.
It's not open now, but I will let you know as soon as a new round
opens up. In the meantime, you can dive into my Substack page,
where I share more details on the SELA method in my
self-empowered leadership series and on my 40-day sabbatical from
my business with zero contact from my team series.
With love,
Nicki

Hi Maude,
There is a part of being a business owner that does not get
talked about enough.
The loneliness.
The weight of holding everything together. The moments of
self-doubt. The quiet thoughts of, do I even want to do this
anymore? What if I just sold? Is this worth it?
If you have ever been there, I see you.
I remember in the beginning those moments felt really heavy.
And even now, 20 years in, I can tell you honestly they do not
disappear completely.
But they do change.
They become less frequent and less overwhelming, and you learn
how to move through them instead of getting stuck in them.
Because those moments are part of leadership.
When I find myself there, the first thing I do is simple.
I let myself feel it.
I do not push it down or pretend it is not there. I create space
to clear it.
Not with my team, but with someone outside of my business.
Sometimes it is my husband. Sometimes it is a mentor.
And I am clear with them. This is just a clearing.
I get it out. All of it.
And then I move forward. I do not stay there.
After that, I come back to myself and ask what I actually need
right now.
Am I tired? Did I just come off a big push? Am I overwhelmed? Am
I depleted?
Because sometimes what feels like I do not want this anymore is
actually just that I am exhausted.
Or I have not taken care of myself. Or I have been giving
everything to everyone else and nothing to me.
That awareness changes everything.
And I want to normalize something.
These thoughts do not mean you are in the wrong business.
They do not mean you are not cut out for leadership.
They mean you are human.
Now here is the part that matters.
You do not make big decisions from that place.
If you are in a moment of wanting to sell everything, being done,
or feeling like you cannot do this, give yourself time.
Because I have been there.
There was a time I almost sold my business.
And when I really looked at it honestly, it was not that I did
not want the business.
It was that I did not want to face what the next level of
leadership required from me.
And that is the truth about leadership that people do not always
talk about.
Leadership is humbling.
It asks you to look at yourself, take responsibility, grow, and
face the things you would rather avoid.
And yes, that can be really hard.
But it is also where everything changes.
Because the more you are willing to look within, the stronger,
clearer, and more grounded you become as a leader.
And those moments that used to take you out become moments you
can move through.
So if you are in one of those seasons right now, take a breath.
Give yourself space to feel it. Clear it with someone safe. Come
back to what you actually need.
And do not make permanent decisions from temporary emotions.
If this resonates, I would love to hear from you.
Have you ever had a moment where you questioned everything in
your business?
Hit reply and let me know. I read every message.
Talk soon,
Nicki

Hi Maude,
If I had to name the most underutilized tool for business owners,
it wouldn’t be a new software, strategy, or productivity hack.
It would be this:
Removing yourself as the bottleneck in your own business.
I didn’t always understand this.
For a long time, I thought being a business owner meant doing
everything, knowing everything, and being involved in every
decision. I thought burnout was just part of the job.
It’s not.
The shift started when I looked honestly at my business and asked
a simple question:
Where am I the bottleneck?
Anywhere work had to stop and wait for me to move forward… that
was a signal.
Hiring decisions?
I trained someone how to hire the way I would.
Operational decisions?
I created clear processes so the team could move forward without
waiting on me.
This wasn’t easy.
Training someone to think the way you think takes time. In the
moment, it can feel painful. You think, I could just do this
faster myself.
But that investment is priceless.
When you empower the right people in your business, something
powerful happens:
Your team builds the business with you.
And you step into the role you were actually meant to hold —
making the bigger decisions, holding the vision, and guiding the
direction.
In SELA, we talk about this as the distinction between Powerful
Source and Powerful Provider.
The business owner (Source) holds the vision.
The team (Providers) brings that vision into form.
But for that partnership to work, the Source has to give up one
thing:
The right to be right about everything.
That doesn’t mean lowering standards.
It means doing what works.
In business (and life), we’re always balancing these three core
issues:
Time.
Money.
People.
And there’s always an investment upfront. Sometimes it costs
time. Sometimes it costs money.
But the payoff is freedom and sustainability.
When the team can move without you being the bottleneck, your
energy returns.
And that matters more than most business owners realize.
Because leadership energy ripples through the entire business.
If you're exhausted, burned out, and constantly overwhelmed, that
energy doesn’t stay contained — your team feels it.
For a long time, I believed burnout was just the price of being a
business owner.
It isn’t.
Burnout is often a signal that something in the structure of the
business needs to change.
When you reclaim your energy, you lead differently.
You’re present when your team needs support.
You make clearer decisions.
You create stability instead of urgency.
And the entire business benefits from that shift.
So here’s something to consider this week:
Where are you currently the bottleneck in your business?
Where are things waiting on you before they can move forward?
If you’re open to it, hit reply and let me know. I genuinely read
these messages, and I’m always happy to share what I’ve learned
through my own experiences in business.
Warmly,
Nicki

Hi Maude,
There’s a moment every leader eventually experiences.
The meeting suddenly goes sideways.
Someone raises a sensitive issue publicly.
Another team member shares unexpected news.
And the energy in the room shifts instantly.
I had one of those moments this week in a leadership meeting with
my team.
A compensation concern came up unexpectedly.
And in the middle of the discussion, another team member shared
their two-weeks notice.
You could feel the room shift.
And for a moment, I felt that familiar leadership wobble.
Not panic.
But the quick internal scan leaders go through in real time:
How do I want to handle this?
What does the team need from me right now?
If you’ve led people for any length of time, you know the
feeling.
But here’s something I’ve learned after many years of leading
teams:
Leadership isn’t about never wobbling.
Leadership is about how quickly you re-center.
In SELA we talk about the distinction between reaction and
response.
A reaction is automatic and driven by old patterns.
A response is conscious and chosen.
And the space between those two…
is where leadership actually lives.
Even experienced leaders have moments where the room shifts
unexpectedly.
What matters is the ability to pause, take a breath, and choose
the next step intentionally instead of letting the story take
over.
So if you’ve walked away from a meeting recently thinking,
“I could have handled that better.”
Let this be your reminder:
That reflection isn’t failure.
That reflection is leadership.
Leadership isn’t perfection.
It’s practice.
Warmly,
Nicki

I don’t know when I’ll open it again.
If you’ve been thinking about it…
If you’ve been on the fence…
If you’ve felt that quiet pull toward doing this work…
This is your moment.
I want to say this clearly:
This work changed everything for me.
Not in a hype way.
Not in a “this sounds good on paper” way.
It gave me my life back.
It gave me my health back.
It gave me clarity where there was chaos.
It shifted how I lead.
How I make decisions.
How I relate to my team.
How I move through fear instead of being run by it.
The frameworks and tools inside this program are something I
genuinely would have paid over $50,000 to have earlier in my
journey.
And I don’t say that lightly.
$555 isn’t just a price.
It’s access to the exact distinctions that allowed me to:
• Step out of burnout
• Lead without constant urgency
• Take a 40-day sabbatical with zero team contact
• Build a business that runs without me gripping it
That sabbatical wasn’t accidental.
It was possible because of the internal work I had already done.
If you’re tired of reacting…
If you’re tired of carrying the emotional weight alone…
If you’re ready to lead from clarity instead of survival…
This is the work.
You can enroll here before midnight:

Also — I’ve been loving Substack lately.
I’m currently sharing a series about those 40 days of zero
contact with my team.
It wasn’t a vacation.
It was a sabbatical.
I was home, living real life — but I had zero contact with my
team.
I’m sharing real journal entries.
Insights I haven’t shared anywhere else.
What’s shifted now that it’s been six months since that
sabbatical.

If You’ve Been Feeling the Pull… (Closes Tonight)
nicki@kjbm.nickibrianne.com3/1/2026
This week I’ve been opening my second location.
New commercial real estate.
SBA loans.
Down payments.
Contractors.
Architects.
Build-outs.
It is big. It is exciting. It is stretching me.
And it feels completely different than the first time.
When I opened my first business, I was in survival.
That is not wrong. It was what I knew. It was what I had the
capacity for. But I was building from urgency, fear, and
pressure.
Trial and error taught me everything. Failure sharpened me.
Burnout woke me up. I learned what works and what does not.
This time I am not building from survival.
I am building from clarity.
From intention.
From energetic alignment.
From choosing what matters instead of reacting to what is loud.
The paperwork is still intense. The risks are still real. The
growth edge is still there. But my leadership is different.
Recently, I was in a room full of business owners talking about
their teams, their frustration, their exhaustion, and their
confusion around communication. And I kept thinking, I know this
terrain.
I have lived this.
I have led through reactive teams.
I have cleaned up broken trust.
I have rebuilt culture from the ground up.
Not from theory. From 17 years of experience.
And I felt a deep pull to share what I know.
I have also made a decision about where my energy goes.
I am a builder. I am not a performer.
Instagram is not where I want to pour my life force. I run a
large business. I am raising three children. I am not interested
in spending my creative energy chasing an algorithm.
But I do want to write.
I love writing here. I love the depth this format allows. I love
the conversations that come back.
I recently took a 40-day sabbatical. No contact with my team. No
noise. No input.
I am turning that experience into a six-part reflection series. I
just released the first piece on Substack, and I will slowly
share the rest. It was clarifying, confronting, and powerful in
ways I did not expect.

If you are building something meaningful, it will likely
resonate.
Now the practical piece.
I am closing the cart for SELA on March 1st.
After being in that room with other business owners and hearing
the same patterns I once struggled with, I made a bold decision.
I reduced the price to $555.
Because I want this work in the hands of leaders who are ready to
stop surviving and start leading with clarity.
If you have been watching from the sidelines, this is the moment
to step in.
Cart closes Sunday, March 1st.
If you are ready to lead from intention instead of urgency, from
response instead of reaction, from clarity instead of confusion,
this is your invitation.
You can join here.

Behind the scenes
nicki@kjbm.nickibrianne.com2/25/2026
Hey Maude,
There comes a moment in leadership when you realize…
You can’t create a new future while living inside an old story.
So many business owners and managers are leading from the past.
From what didn’t work.
From who left.
From the hire that failed.
From the launch that fell flat.
From the conversation that didn’t go well.
But the future does not live there.
Leadership rooted in the past creates reaction.
Leadership rooted in possibility creates expansion.
So today, I want to invite you into something powerful.
Pause.
And ask yourself:
* Where am I still living from the past?
* What am I tolerating in my business or team?
* What is that toleration costing me — clarity, energy, trust,
growth?
* What fear is quietly shaping my decisions?
* What am I afraid to look at?
* And what would truly work for my vision instead?
Fear is not a stop sign.
Fear is energy — plus a story.
When you separate the energy from the story, clarity returns.
And from clarity… you create.
Instead of asking:
What if it all falls apart?
Ask:
What is already working?
What is possible now?
What can I create?
That is leadership.
And once you see clearly, the next step is not force.
It’s conversation.
Powerful conversations begin with ARC:
Appreciation.
Reality.
Communication.
Start with appreciation — internally first.
Acknowledge what’s working.
Then speak to what’s so.
And recommit to what works for the future you are creating.
👇 I recorded a short video walking you through how to use the ARC
Method in real conversations with your team.
https://email.kjbm.nickibrianne.com/c/eJxskMuK3DAQRb_G3oQxUkmW5YUWCUmTkOyym40pS-UZTbckR4-B_vuQfkAYelnnVF2oi_u-RAxkjviGq38qNWXacoq1PO05uWarT7F3ZrIgQfdk-DRxKUampp4C-tPi6OTfKZ8X74yYx5kpxWC8W-8M8HECrYQQNxaoFHyhpZ53Mle05oTOYqm3lUwltWzp4X2hP43iVd5RWy9p3_5NXz6EPTKvRmwSVr0B13KT0mrCeUWaNyHFKBjo3htgoBhwzSc-STUgKis3CWpTM2o-d5Id39YwRG-Pfs0eY6TBptCfzGute-nE5w4OHRzOqdU2rNTBAUN6_v5TPbdfpb_3UCg6yotLAX00jyOzCZ1kl3-GlxSSa6d8FWT97inWS1VKj2pknE198fXWntRKAmdzX81vX-nTj68diP_wu4G_AQAA__9whavK
Watch it.
Choose one conversation you’ve been avoiding.
And lead it from possibility instead of the past.
This is how you shift from managing to empowering.
From reacting to responding.
From control to co-creation.
The future you want does not live in your past.
It lives in the possibility you’re willing to declare today.
You don’t have to fix everything.
You just have to be willing to look…
And choose what works.
With you in possibility,
Nicki Brianne

Your past is running your company...
nicki@kjbm.nickibrianne.com2/18/2026
Hey Maude,
I want to tell you something I don’t share lightly.
There was a season in my business where I looked successful on
paper…
Revenue was there.
Clients were there.
The team was there.
But I was exhausted.
I was the emotional regulator for everyone.
I replayed conversations at night.
I tolerated behaviors I had already “mentally addressed.”
I said I wanted empowered leaders — but I was still the safety
net.
I told myself it was just growth.
Just a busy stretch.
Just what leadership required.
It wasn’t.
It was survival.
And here’s the hard truth:
Nothing changed until I stopped trying to fix my team
… and started correcting my leadership patterns.
The shift didn’t happen because I worked harder.
It happened because I applied a few simple frameworks
consistently.
Not theory.
Practice.
Here’s exactly what I did:
1️⃣ I separated “What’s So” from the Story
Facts:
Deadlines were missed.
Standards weren’t upheld.
I was stepping in.
Story:
“They don’t care.”
“I’m bad at hiring.”
“I have to do everything.”
When I stripped it down to facts only, I could respond instead of
react.
Clarity replaced emotion.
2️⃣ I replaced expectations with agreements
I realized I had expectations…
that I had never actually declared.
So I started saying:
“This is the outcome.”
“This is the standard.”
“This is the ownership level required.”
“If this isn’t met, here’s what happens.”
Calm.
Neutral.
Clear.
Everything shifted.
Because agreements create accountability.
Expectations create resentment.
3️⃣ I stopped rescuing
This one was uncomfortable.
When someone dropped the ball, I didn’t immediately catch it.
I addressed it.
Not harshly.
But directly.
Rescuing had trained my team to under-function.
Ownership required space.
4️⃣ I regulated before responding
I stopped having hard conversations while activated.
If I felt tight in my chest or heat in my body, I paused.
Walked.
Breathed.
Waited.
Leadership from activation is survival.
Leadership from regulation is power.
5️⃣ I made one declaration:
“I will not build a successful business I secretly resent.”
That sentence changed everything.
Because once I declared it, my behavior had to align.
And slowly — not overnight — survival turned into sustainability.
My team became stronger.
Turnover dropped.
The money we were leaking through rehiring and retraining
finally stabilized.
Energy returned.
Home felt lighter.
My nervous system settled.
Not because business got easier.
Because I got clearer.
Thriving isn’t about perfect teams.
It’s about powerful source leadership.
And if you’re tired of paying for old leadership patterns —
financially and emotionally — this is exactly the work we do
inside SÉLA.
SÉLA is my leadership course for business owners who are done:
• absorbing everyone’s emotions
• tolerating misalignment
• paying the price for unclear standards
• surviving inside a business that should feel powerful
Inside SÉLA, we recalibrate your leadership patterns,
communication frameworks, nervous system regulation, and cultural
standards — so your business stops running on burnout and starts
running on clarity.
Because turnover isn’t random.
Burnout isn’t inevitable.
Resentment isn’t leadership.
If you’re ready to build a team that stays, communicates, and
performs without you rescuing —
Enrollment for SÉLA is open.

This is costing you more than you think.
nicki@kjbm.nickibrianne.com2/15/2026
Hey Maude,
Let’s stop pretending this is just “a busy season.”
You built the business.
You hired the team.
You care more than anyone else in the room.
So why does it feel so heavy?
Why are you the one lying awake at night replaying conversations?
Why are you the one absorbing everyone’s emotions?
Why does it feel like if you don’t hold it all together, it all
falls apart?
That’s not leadership.
That’s survival.
And survival leadership is exhausting.
It looks like tolerating behavior you said you’d address months
ago.
It sounds like “They should know what I expect by now…”
It feels like reacting in the moment — and regretting it later.
It becomes managing people instead of empowering them through
clear agreements.
You tell yourself you just need to be stronger.
More patient.
More organized.
More disciplined.
But the truth?
You’re tired because you’re leading without clarity.
When you don’t have a brutally honest clear view of what’s
actually happening — not the story, not the illusion, not the
hopeful version — you end up building strategies on assumptions.
And assumptions create resentment.
Confusion.
Mixed signals.
Then you feel alone at the top.
Here’s the part most leaders won’t admit:
It’s not your team that frustrates you the most.
It’s that you know you’re capable of more — and you’re not
leading at that level.
That gap?
That’s what hurts.
Self-empowered leadership isn’t about doing more.
It’s about stopping the unconscious patterns that keep you
reacting instead of responding.
It’s about shifting from:
Managing → Empowering
Reacting → Responding
Control → Co-creation
And when that shift happens, something radical changes.
You stop gripping.
You stop over-explaining.
You stop absorbing everything.
You lead from clarity.
And your team feels it immediately.
If you’re done white-knuckling your leadership…
If you’re tired of being the emotional shock absorber…
If you’re ready to stop surviving and start leading powerfully…
This is your moment.
You don’t need to be tougher.
You need to be clearer.
And clarity changes everything.
🌬️ If this resonates, reply with one word:
“Survival” or “Clarity.”
No explanation needed.
Sometimes naming it is the first shift.
With possibility,
Nicki

You’re Not Overwhelmed. You’re Carrying It Alone.
nicki@kjbm.nickibrianne.com2/12/2026
Hi friends,
I’ve been getting a lot of thoughtful questions about The
Self-Empowered Leadership Academy (SELA), so I wanted to share
clear answers here in one place.
If you’ve been feeling curious, unsure, or quietly called toward
this work, let this email help you feel into whether SELA is the
right next step for you.
* Who is SELA for?
SELA is designed for business owners, entrepreneurs, and leaders
who manage people and want to lead with more clarity, confidence,
impact, and workability.
It’s especially powerful for leaders who feel responsible for
everything, experience burnout, or notice recurring communication
breakdowns on their team—and are ready to shift from managing to
self-empowered leadership.
* What types of businesses is this best suited for?
SELA supports leaders across industries—service-based
businesses, brick-and-mortar teams, wellness, creative fields,
and growing organizations.
If you lead humans (employees, contractors, managers), this work
applies. The principles are human-centered, not
industry-specific.
* How long is the program?
SELA is a multi-phase leadership program released in structured
modules.
Each module includes short video lessons, guided workbooks, and
reflection quizzes.
You can move through the curriculum at one of two supported
paces:
- Steady Pace: 18 weeks (1 module per week)
- Accelerated Pace: 9 weeks (up to 2 modules per week)
Most participants spend 1–2.5 hours per module, and the course
unlocks at the accelerated pace—so you can move efficiently
without rushing integration.
* Is this a mindset course or a leadership strategy course?
Both—and neither in the traditional sense.
SELA integrates frameworks for self-empowerment, emotional
awareness, clear communication, and practical leadership
application. This is not surface-level mindset work or rigid
management tactics. It’s about how you lead from the inside out,
and how that directly impacts your team, culture, and results.
* Do I need a large team to benefit from this?
No. SELA is valuable whether you lead one person or many.
If you work with people—or plan to grow a team—this program
builds the internal foundation that prevents burnout,
misalignment, and reactive leadership as you scale.
* What makes SELA different from other leadership programs?
SELA focuses on awareness, energy, and choice, not control or
performance pressure.
Instead of teaching you how to “fix” your team, it helps you see
what’s actually happening—internally and externally—so you can
respond with clarity, create powerful agreements, and lead from
integrity and workability.
* What kind of results can I expect?
Participants commonly experience:
• A paradigm shift from managing and reacting to leading from
possibility and choice
• Confident, powerful leadership rooted in self-empowerment and
self-appreciation
• Clear communication and steady, responsive leadership grounded
in awareness
• Stronger team accountability, trust, and shared agreements
that actually work
• A shift from burnout into clarity, capacity, and sustainable
leadership—for you and your team
• A leadership style grounded in clarity, what works, and your
vision
The biggest shift?
Leaders stop carrying everything alone. By leading from
appreciation, clarity, and possibility, teams rise into
ownership—and leaders create the space for their vision to move
forward with integrity, velocity, and ease.
Is SELA right for you?
This program is likely a fit if you resonate with several of the
statements below:
• You are a business owner, entrepreneur, or leader who manages
people (or is preparing to).
• You care deeply about your team but sometimes feel emotionally
drained, frustrated, or responsible for everything.
• You notice recurring communication issues, tension, or
misunderstandings—and want tools that actually work in real life.
• You want to lead with clarity and confidence rather than
reacting under pressure.
• You’re open to looking at how your inner state, emotions, and
beliefs impact your leadership.
• You value self-awareness, integrity, and aligned action more
than quick fixes or rigid management tactics.
• You’re ready to move from managing or controlling to
empowering yourself and your team.

If you manage people, read this
nicki@kjbm.nickibrianne.com2/10/2026
Hey Maude,
There was a moment, about six years ago, when I was ready to walk
away from my business entirely.
I had been a small business owner for 12 years at that point.
Three little boys.
A business that looked successful from the outside.
And inside? I was exhausted.
When I had my labs done, my waking cortisol levels came back
dangerously low — low enough that my practitioner sent me to the
hospital to rule out Addison’s disease.
I had to be injected with a chemical to test whether my body
could respond at all.
That was the moment I understood something had been off for a
very long time — not because I wasn’t strong, but because I had
been surviving instead of leading.
Every decision felt personal.
There was never a real break.
My nervous system was constantly braced—thinking about money,
about responsibility, about whether it was all worth it.
I wanted to be present with my kids.
I wanted peace.
And honestly? I wanted out.
What’s important to say is this:
I didn’t get to where I am now by pushing harder or fixing one
more system.
Yes—there were operational shifts.
But the real transformation came when I realized something
uncomfortable and powerful at the same time:
I didn’t trust myself.
There was so much noise online. So many strategies. So many
voices telling me how I should lead, scale, rest, grow.
I kept looking outside of myself for certainty—until I finally
slowed down enough to listen inward.
That’s when everything changed.
I began asking myself different questions.
I started seeing my patterns instead of judging them.
I learned how to work with my nervous system instead of
overriding it.
And little by little, survival loosened its grip and I started
thriving in business and life.
What surprised me most wasn’t just how much I changed —
it was how my team changed.
As I shifted, I stopped being the emotional center of everything.
I created powerful leaders around me — people who could think,
decide, and lead without me holding it all together.
Ownership replaced pressure.
Clarity replaced urgency.
Leadership became shared instead of carried alone.
Today, I don’t work in my business — I work on it.
I take roughly four months off throughout the year.
I work from home.
I meet with my team, guide vision, and trust the leaders I’ve
developed.
I live in the now.
My life feels spacious.
And at the same time, my business continues to grow — we’re
opening more locations and expanding in ways that feel grounded,
not frantic.
The tools and frameworks that supported this shift weren’t
accidental.
They came from years of lived experience, deep study, and a
devotion to leadership that actually works — not just for
businesses, but for human nervous systems.
That’s why I created the Self-Empowered Leadership Academy
( https://email.kjbm.nickibrianne.com/c/eJxskM1u3CAUhZ_G3lQZXa75XbBo1Y7UdR_AwnAnIWPABRwpb191xpGiaJZ83-FI97htm7NLZK_u1S3xqfVS6VJL7u1pqyXsvseSx2CVR456JMuUAg6cKxgpubjOgdb4RvV9jsFOBo1UTEiJh43BIhMKwUycHyxRa-6Z5v6-kb2jpRYXvGv9iFRqZa-eHv5v9HenfJcfaF9ubb_-v358KXtkXiwJJyaUTBPIi9Z6QsQFuDSXiauLUGO0CCgBQTIDDMwpBMOl9j4o4TxwNXC4vi7plKO_xqVGlzOdfEnjal9639owfR_wPOD5a2DAc6PVDXgeP7ZolAPVOZTkYraPa6tNA4fbTafnkkrY13oX5OMWKffbXFILKYCBGlvsx4JcS44MzNjtn9jp2--fA06f8JvFfwEAAP__k7esog ).
Not as a “do more” program.
Not as another strategy to pile on.
But as a place to develop self-trust, internal authority, and
leaders who don’t burn themselves out to succeed.
I’ll continue sharing more of this journey with you in the coming
newsletters — because if you’ve been living in survival, you’re
not broken.
You’re just ready for a different way to lead.
With appreciation,
Nicki

If you’re a values-driven small business owner or manager who
wants to reduce turnover, strengthen communication, and scale
without burning out — you’re in the right place.
If you want to stabilize your team, increase profits, and reclaim
your freedom in just 9 weeks, keep reading.
If you’ve been in my world for any amount of time, you know that
in order to achieve sustainable growth and time freedom
consistently…
You need clarity, alignment, and empowered leadership.
The simplest way to build a business that runs without you is by
leading from Self-Empowered Leadership—not micromanagement or
I’ll do it myself mode.
Period.
And perhaps you’ve tried:
- Reading leadership books that felt too corporate
- Hiring new people, hoping one would “fix” culture
- Building SOPs and workflows no one followed
That’s okay.
I got to a place where I could fully step away from my business
for 40 days with zero contact from my team by doing three key
things:
- Shifting into a clear leadership identity instead of reacting
from burnout
- Creating aligned agreements and frameworks that supported my
team first
- Regulating my nervous system and energy so I could lead and
communicate with clarity
Before, I found myself trying quick fixes—like hiring someone new
to “fix” culture, tightening SOPs no one used, or stepping in to
micromanage. These offered temporary relief, yet clarity and
alignment are what created lasting change.
Now I lead with clarity, alignment, and embodied leadership
practices—and it works.

Benefit #2 → Gain more freedom and focus for vision and growth.

👉 Your team shouldn’t need you to run itself
nicki@kjbm.nickibrianne.com2/1/2026
Hey Maude,
At a certain level of leadership, the questions change.
They stop sounding like “What should I do?”
And start sounding like “How do I stay steady while I do it?”
Two questions I hear from experienced founders and CEOs are
these:
How do you hold certainty when you’re making a pivot without
guaranteed outcomes?
And how do you truly delegate without stepping back in when it’s
not done your way?
They appear separate.
They’re not.
They both live in the same place: how you relate to uncertainty.
Here’s the truth most seasoned leaders eventually come to terms
with:
There is no such thing as certainty in business.
No one saw the pandemic coming.
No one ever has full visibility into how a new direction will
unfold.
If certainty were required, growth would stop at competence.
At this level, leadership is no longer about eliminating
uncertainty.
It’s about having the capacity to hold it without gripping the
organization.
One of the clearest examples of this in my own leadership was the
decision to remove insurance from my business.
On paper, it was nearly $900,000 a year in predictable revenue.
No marketing. No selling. Reliable inflow.
In reality, it came with operational drag, emotional labor, team
strain, and a guest experience that required constant explanation
and repair.
Walking away from it didn’t require confidence in the outcome.
It required confidence in clarity.
I didn’t make the decision from instinct alone.
I surrounded it with systems.
Numbers. Scenarios. Reality checks.
What if none of it was replaced?
What if only a fraction was?
What was the actual risk — not the one fear imagined?
That process created steadiness — not because success was
guaranteed, but because the decision was honest.
That distinction matters.
The same dynamic shows up in delegation.
When uncertainty is present, even experienced leaders revert to
control.
They intervene.
They “fix.”
They reinsert themselves.
But control is rarely about performance.
It’s about nervous-system relief.
This is where the Source and Provider distinction becomes
essential.
In any organization, the business owner is the Source.
The team are the Providers.
What makes Source powerful is not doing more — it’s holding
direction.
Vision. Priority. Integrity.
Source leads by declaration, not correction.
What ultimately makes Source powerful is the willingness to give
up the right to be right — to stay open instead of reactive.
What makes Providers powerful is ownership.
Execution. Structure. Follow-through.
Providers bring vision into form.
What makes Providers powerful is the willingness to give up the
right to make Source wrong — so alignment stays intact even under
pressure.
Between these roles live agreements.
And most leadership breakdowns are not performance issues —
they’re agreement issues.
Early in my leadership, when something went sideways, I would
jump in and save the situation.
What I didn’t realize was that I was training dependency.
My team didn’t learn how to navigate complexity.
They learned how to wait for me.
Leadership became sustainable only when I stopped rescuing and
started training from breakdowns.
That same trust was tested at a much deeper level during my
40-day sabbatical.
Stepping away didn’t require optimism.
It required preparation, clarity, and trust in the structure —
not in personalities.
The business didn’t weaken.
It strengthened.
That experience reinforced something I now know without question:
When Source stays in their role, and Providers are truly
empowered, the business becomes more resilient — not more
fragile.
At this level, mistakes will cost time and money.
That’s not failure.
That’s the investment required for scale and longevity.
The difference between stalled organizations and sustainable ones
is not certainty.
It’s leadership capacity.
Today, I don’t look for certainty in outcomes.
I look for proof in who I am as a leader.
I’ve navigated complexity before.
I know how I respond under pressure.
I know how to course-correct without collapsing or controlling.
And I know that even when something doesn’t work, it becomes
information — not identity.
So if you’re making a pivot…
If you’re loosening your grip…
If you’re standing in the discomfort of not knowing —
You’re not off track.
You’re in the actual work of leadership.
Certainty was never the job.
Holding the business is.
If this spoke to you, SELA opens this Sunday.
The Self-Empowered Leadership Academy is where we develop the
capacity to hold the business — without gripping it.

When Success Starts to Feel Heavy
nicki@kjbm.nickibrianne.com1/29/2026
Hey Maude,
There’s a moment many leaders don’t say out loud.
You look at your team and think,
They’re smart. They care. They’re capable.
And yet…
You’re still the one following up.
Still reminding.
Still carrying the responsibility that was supposed to be shared.
At first, it’s manageable.
Then it’s exhausting.
You might quietly wonder:
“Why am I still holding so much, even with a good team?”
Here’s the reality most leadership advice misses:
This usually isn’t a motivation problem.
And it’s rarely a team problem.
It’s often an ownership gap created unintentionally through
leadership patterns.
When expectations live as assumptions, people wait.
When agreements aren’t clearly made, responsibility stays fuzzy.
And when leaders unconsciously carry more than their role, teams
feel it — and step back instead of stepping up.
Ownership doesn’t come from pushing harder or managing tighter.
It comes from clarity, choice, enrollment, and clean agreements.
One powerful question that will create a paradigm shift:
Instead of asking “Why aren’t they taking ownership?”
Ask, “Where might I still be holding responsibility that was
never clearly handed over?”
When expectations are spoken as agreements —
When people are enrolled into a shared possibility —
Leadership stops feeling heavy.
People stop performing for you
and start leading with you.
If this resonates, I want you to know something important:
✨ Self-Empowered Leadership Academy (SELA) officially opens
February 1st.
SELA is for leaders who are ready to:
* Stop over-functioning
* Build teams that take real ownership
* Lead from clarity instead of exhaustion
* Create cultures that actually work
You don’t need another strategy.

--> Hello beautiful soul!
Let’s talk about leadership as a transformation.
Powerful leadership isn’t just about how you lead others, it’s
about who you become in the process.
This is the heart of Self-Empowered Leadership:
A conscious, embodied, and deeply personal approach to leading
from within.
In traditional leadership models, power often lives at the top.
You follow rules. Manage tasks. Motivate through pressure or
reward. You measure success by output, compliance, and control.
But that model? It was built for factories, not for human
evolution.
Self-Empowered Leadership flips the script.
It’s not rooted in hierarchy, performance, or positional
authority. It’s grounded in clarity, courage, and conscious
choice.
You don’t wait to be told what to do. You become the source of
your own clarity, energy, and direction.
So what is Self-Empowered Leadership?
-------------------------------------
It’s a leadership model built on:
* Radical responsibility — you don’t outsource your choices.
* Emotional mastery — you meet challenges with awareness, not
reactivity.
* Embodied presence — you don’t just know your values; you embody
them.
* Inspired influence — you lead through vision, not pressure.
And perhaps most importantly:
You don’t just lead others—you lead yourself, first.
In contrast to the old model—top-down, rigid,
reactive—Self-Empowered Leadership is reflective, relational, and
in real-time.
It’s where your inner work becomes your outer impact. Where
healing meets action. And where leadership is an embodiment of
who you truly are.
Today’s world doesn’t need more managers.
It needs leaders who are grounded in integrity, moved by vision,
and anchored in self-trust.
So let me ask you:
Are you leading from performance... or from presence?
Are you managing outcomes... or modeling ownership?
If you’re ready to move beyond the outdated structures of control
and step into a leadership style that’s deeply aligned,
human-centered, and transformational—this is your invitation.
This is Self-Empowered Leadership Academy. And it’s not just a
skill, it’s a way of being in everyday life.
I’ll be sharing more about a new way to lead that’s deeply
aligned, human-centered, and transformational.
It’s coming soon — and you’ll be first in line to hear about it.
Live Well,
Nicki

--> Hello Maude,
Here’s something most leaders aren’t taught:
Making a request is about connection.
It’s how we move from assumption to clarity.
From obligation to ownership.
From micromanaging to alignment.
A powerful request is more than assigning a task. It’s a moment
of leadership—an energetic agreement grounded in trust, purpose,
and mutual success.
This is the turning point:
Leading in a way that invites a “yes” without pressure,
over-explaining, or compromise.
You can create forward movement through communication.
Because when your request is rooted in respect, clarity, and
intention, it doesn’t just land—it inspires. It builds
cooperation and connection.
And it starts with understanding why your ask matters.
When people don’t feel the “why,” they stall. They resist. They
check out.
But when you clearly show how their effort connects to the bigger
picture?
You get buy-in. You get momentum.
Example:
“Finishing the marketing plan by Friday is crucial because it
lets us launch on time and hit our quarterly goals.”
Simple. Direct. Purpose-driven.
So let me ask you:
Are your requests being received with clarity?
Are you communicating like a leader who knows how to create
alignment with every request?
Ready to be the kind of leader people want to say yes to?
I want you to sit with this:
When you make a request that honors your team’s reality—not just
your own—you build trust. And trust is what turns resistance into
partnership.
What’s one request you’ve been avoiding making to your team? Hit
reply and tell me — I may have a tip for you.
Live Well,
Nicki

--> Hello beautiful soul!
Whether I’m leading a team meeting, navigating a difficult
conversation, or realigning with myself—I return to the same
powerful framework every single time.
It’s called the ARC Method:
Appreciation. Reality. Communication.
And if you’re leading a team, guiding clients, or holding space
for others—this method isn’t just helpful, it’s essential.
Think of the ARC like a three-legged stool.
When each part is strong and intact, there is workability. But
when one leg is missing or shaky? Things are unstable... fast.
So why does this matter as a leader?
One of your greatest responsibilities is creating environments
that work for yourself, your team and your clients.
And that’s exactly what the ARC Method delivers: workability.
This method supports you to leading with presence, clarity, and
integrity even when things get messy.
Let me break it down:
*Lead with Appreciation – Begin with self-appreciation and let it
expand outward. Instead of waiting to feel appreciated, you
generate it.
Through tone, words, energy, or action... your leadership becomes
a mirror. You pause. You acknowledge. You see others.
*Honor Your Reality – You honor what IS through agreements.
Create alignment through clear agreements.
*Communication with Clarity – You speak with intention. You
engage with clarity. You are present, focused on what works,
creating the conditions for resolution.
The ARC Method not only guides you on what you say, it transforms
how you show up for yourself and your team.
Responding powerfully becomes the default.
You shift from managing conflict… to restoring workability and
harmony.
Whether you’re addressing a performance issue, untangling a
miscommunication, or holding space for authentic dialogue—the ARC
gives you something solid to stand on.
It works.
It brings you back to yourself and forward into aligned, powerful
leadership.
You lead with curiosity and presence.
And ARC helps you get there again and again.

next difficult talk with a team member, click here to access the
Google Doc.

--> Hello Maude,}
Here’s something worth remembering:
You lead powerfully when you come from possibility and what
works.
When you choose to lead from your vision and what works you
create workability and possibility.
The team moves toward growth and solutions. Your team becomes
focused and empowered. People contribute authentically and
expansion becomes the new norm.
This is what powerful, future-focused leadership looks like.
You don't need to have all the answers to lead powerfully and
hold yourself and your team accountable.
It’s about declaring what you stand for and choosing to move
forward even when fear is present.
Fear doesn’t disappear. Instead of letting it lead, you
acknowledge it… wrap it up… and carry it with you.
You stop asking, “What if it all falls apart?” or “What if they
leave?”
And instead ask:
✨ “What’s already working?”
✨ “What’s possible now?”
✨ “What can I create?”
That’s the inner work. Creating from clarity, intention, and what
works.
This is your invitation to declare expansion and growth as a
leadership practice.
When you lead from what works, you lead powerfully. And when you
lead powerfully, you create the future.
Let that be your next move.

your team right now (and what’s not)?

Most leaders would admit... it’s a work in progress.
But why is that? What’s holding most teams back from becoming
magnetic, aligned, and high-performing?
Most of the time, it boils down to ONE… MAIN… THING:
There are no clear agreements or none at all.
Without written and shared agreements, teams drift into
misalignment. Leaders end up over-managing, under-trusting,
and being frustrated.
Sound familiar?
I remember before we had agreements in place, everything felt
limited.
We had rules, policies, and SOPs but there was no real place to
stand with people. It led to micromanaging, and honestly, it
drained the energy out of the team and me. When I look back at
some of those old SOPs now, they feel heavy and uninspiring.
Everything shifted once we created our five agreements.
Suddenly, I had a clear framework to lead from, and my team had
something powerful to stand on.
Now, when a breakdown happens, I don’t have to overthink or
over-manage — I can simply refer back to the agreements.
One of my favorites is “Be open, honest, positive, and
supportive.”
Recently, I had a team member who often came across as angry and
difficult to approach, even though they saw themselves as
“passionate.”
Instead of ignoring it or writing another policy, I listened
generously, acknowledged their perspective, and then gently
reminded them of our agreement. I shared how their teammates were
experiencing them, and I asked them to begin newly from that
place of openness and support.
That conversation was a turning point because the agreements
created clarity, trust, and accountability.
If so, I’d love to help. One of my biggest passions is helping
leaders create magnetic teams—where work flows, trust is high,
and accountability happens by default.
If you’ve read the Magnetic Teams Guide

, you already know this:
Agreements are the foundation of a functional, aligned business.
They build trust, integrity, and workability.
When your team is clear on what they’ve chosen and committed to,
everything becomes easier. Less micromanaging. More ownership.
And yes, of course, greater results.
So let me ask you...
Is it time to build the kind of leadership culture you actually
want to work with Clarity, Integrity, and Trust, for greater
Results?
What specific situation do you have going on right now that's
causing low team energy—hit reply and tell me about it. I’ll give
you a quick insight over email that could shift the way you’re
seeing it.

--> Hello beautiful soul!
Let’s talk about something that makes the difference between
teams that simply function… and teams that generate and thrive:
Intention.
Intentional leadership is choosing how you want to show up
and the environment you want to create.
It’s where your inner work becomes your outer legacy.
It’s the sacred intersection of reflection and action.
When we lead with intention, we create our reality and live from
and into possibility.
This is how high-performing, connected, and values-driven teams
are built—from the inside out.
If your team is currently navigating challenges like
inconsistency, low engagement, or lack of follow-through, the
first shift isn’t in tactics—it’s in intention.
Ask yourself:
“What do I really want to create?”
Not fix. Not control. Create.
There was a season when I lost two managers — my operations
manager had let go of the front desk manager, and then I lost the
operations manager. Suddenly, I was covering both roles on top of
running the company. I was anxious, stretched thin, and terrified
of sliding back into burnout.
My mind was spinning with the same thoughts many business owners
know well:
“If people keep threatening to quit, I’ll never have stability.
I’ll always be stuck carrying it all. I’ll never get free of this
cycle.”
And like so many of us, my default response was to go back to the
same old playbook: scramble to hire, patch holes, push harder.
But without setting intention, every hire, every move just left
me right back where I didn’t want to be.
That’s fear. Fear keeps us reacting, repeating, and exhausting
ourselves.
Instead, I chose something different. I set a clear intention:
"I am creating the possibility of health, freedom, flexibility,
and prosperity with a team that empowers me.”
Even when breakdowns followed — staff upset, tension in the team,
the fear of people walking out — I stood in that intention.
I listened generously, held the energy of possibility, and
trusted the process.
And here’s what happened: nobody quit. In fact, the very same
team members who once felt ready to leave are still with us
today, thriving more than four years later.
And the ripple effect has been undeniable.
When we post a job opening now, we receive hundreds of
applications within 24 hours. People around town talk about our
business as the place to work. We’ve even had to turn applicants
away because we’re fully staffed.
That’s the kind of abundance that living from intention creates.
That shift came from standing in intention.
When your intention is clear, your actions become powerful.
And your team will feel it. They’ll respond to it. They’ll rise
to it.
If you know you're ready to lead from this place, and want
support bringing your intentions to life—in yourself and in your
team—I’m here to help.
I use a simple 10-minute intention exercise before big decisions,
team meetings, and whenever I’m ready to create new momentum.
You can grab the exact Google Doc I use right here.

--> Hello Maude,
Let’s get radically honest for a moment:
👉 What’s really driving the way you lead? Most leaders think
they’re making decisions from clarity, strategy, or intuition.
But here’s the plot twist…
More often than not, they’re running on old programming.
The invisible patterns wired into your subconscious by age seven.
These hidden codes shape everything:
From how you manage time and money…
To how you navigate conflict, hire your team, or avoid that hard
conversation.
And until you notice the “movie” playing in the background, it’s
the one calling the shots.
* Saying yes when you meant no
* Making fear-based money moves
* Spending your time on energy drains
* Staying in burnout because it feels weirdly familiar and safe
But awareness is all you need to start making consistent shifts.
Once you see the programming, you will take your power back.

where old programming might be running your leadership.
That’s the heart of Self-Empowered Leadership.
It’s shifting from autopilot to conscious choice and creating
from possibility, not habit.
This work cracked my own leadership wide open.
When I spotted my patterns—people-pleasing, money scarcity, and
overcommitting myself with my time —I finally saw why I kept
hitting the same walls… and caused new breakthroughs in time and
money.
If you’ve been “doing all the right things” but still feel stuck,
here’s your invitation to look deeper:
✨ What story are you telling yourself about leadership?
✨ What are you tolerating just because it is familiar?
✨ Which outdated belief is gripping the wheel of your business?
It’s time to rewrite the code— With awareness, alignment, and the
courage to choose mindfully.
This is how powerful leadership is built.
From the inside out.
What’s one old leadership habit you’d love to let go of this
year?
Reply and tell me. Your answer might inspire an upcoming training
I’m creating.
Live well,
Nicki
P.S. I’m putting the finishing touches on something that will
help leaders like you rewrite their leadership programming for
good. Stay tuned.

--> Hello Maude,
Many of the leaders I work with come to me for clarity and
leadership alignment so they can scale their businesses without
burning out or micromanaging.
If you’re anything like I was, you’re probably feeling a bit
overwhelmed, stuck, or even unsure how to lead your team through
this season.
I want you to know that just because this is your current
experience, it has nothing to do with what's possible for you and
your team.
* Maybe you’re carrying more than people know, juggling
motherhood, burnout, and a business that constantly needs you.
* Maybe your team is growing, but without clear communication and
shared values, it feels like you're leading in circles
* Maybe you're doing all the “right things,” but you’re still
losing great people and caught in a costly cycle of hiring,
training, and starting over.
* Maybe you seek clarity and confidence, but self-doubt keeps
whispering that you’re not ready to lead at the next level.
* Maybe your vision is big but without systems that support both
your nervous system and your team, every day feels like a
scramble.
I want you to know something:
Just because you’re feeling that way now doesn’t mean you have to
continue that way.
And more importantly—there’s nothing wrong here. Clarity is
simply missing.
Clarity realized.
A thriving team culture starts with you.
With the energy you bring.
With how willing you are to see and get what’s actually
happening.
That kind of willingness is very powerful.
And it’s the foundation of every great leader I’ve ever worked
with.
If this hits home for you, just know… you’re not alone.
And you don’t need to figure it all out by yourself.
Hit reply and tell me: what’s your biggest leadership challenge
right now? I read every message.
Live Well,
Nicki
P.S. I’m working on something special for leaders who want to end
team chaos and reclaim their time — you’ll be the first to know
when it’s ready.

In this guide, I’ll show you how to use one simple but
game-changing tool:
Creating powerful agreements.
It’s one of the foundational shifts that completely transformed
how I lead and how my team operates.
Instead of managing behavior or putting out fires, I built a
culture rooted in clarity, trust, and ownership. My team started
showing up with integrity, knowing exactly what was expected, and
momentum naturally followed.
Policies and rules aren’t bad but they aren’t shaping culture or
inspiring buy-in the way that shared agreements do.
Agreements are one of the exact tools I present inside my
