Why we’re over the “creator economy” ( https://passionfru.it/?utm_content=welcome-t3-logo ) *Hey, reader * There is no better oxymoron to sum up our current state of digital affairs than the term 'creator economy.' Not because creators don't generate revenue-- have you seen the 10 richest TikTokers recently ( https://passionfru.it/richest-tiktokers-2762/ ) ?-- but throughout history, economics has never been the driving force behind making art and vice-versa. That isn't to say we aren't interested in covering the economics of being a Creator, only that when we cover the money stuff, we do so from the perspective of those who actually create and not those who look at an emerging class of young professionals and see only the amount of money that can be squeezed from them. As a wise Bo Burnham sock puppet once said, "The global network of capital essentially functions to separate the worker from the means of production,” via “wage compulsion and imposed production content." Just kidding, that last part was Karl Marx: the original Bo Burnham, minus the bops.
